Hello and welcome to my blog, today I wanted to teach you how to set nail tech goals for yourself and your business. It’s very important to have goals for yourself as that is how you go after and achieve things. And whether you are a visual learner, or hands on, you can set goals that work for you and your future. Especially since 2025 is here!

So where should you start? Well, are you looking for short term goals, or long term goals? In my opinion it is bets to aim for both. It’ll help you in the long run. Having a long term goal is very nice and achievable but sometimes we can run stagnant and get bored or lazy. Having short term goals keeps on track so that we can be consistent with our selves.
Have you heard of SMART?
- Specific
- State your nails goal clearly, so they can’t be misunderstood. You already know what you want out of your goals, make sure you keep them very specific so they can’t be bent or turned around later. Saying, I want to learn airbrushing is better than saying, I want to learn nail art.
- Measurable
- Be able to track your progress, for certainty that they are getting done. Keep a record of all your progress to see what to have or haven’t done. Takes notes and look back at your work to see are you moving forward with your plans to achieve your goals.
- Achievable
- Be realistic, set goals you can achieve within your means. Don’t over exert yourself trying to make your goals. Keep them within your capabilities to you can actually achieve them and proud of what you’ve done not upset because you made it too unrealistic.
- Relevant
- Make sure your nail goals align with what you truly want and desire. Don’t set your nails goal so far off that you start to head in another direction. Keep them clean cut and to the point of what you’re truly trying to achieve. Having them relevant will you keep you focused from beginning to end.
- Time-Bound
- Set a deadline to create a sense of urgency. If you know you want to do something by next Tuesday, write it down, make that plan. Make your goals so that they can be achieved but also that you have to have a little pressure on yourself to get them done.
Each nail tech has a different plan for what they want to do in this world. Some want a salon, others want to booth rent. What are your nail tech goals? And honestly you might not know all of your goals. I for one did not know my goals at all really, I just made one at a time, and eventually new ones came along as my pattern changed and life took turns. This may be the case for you. The goal, HA! The goal is to start with just one and let it blossom from there into something amazing happens by the end of it. Something that you made and planned.
Long term versus short term. How do you know which one is best for you, or should you do them both? Well it depends on the idea you have for yourself. I’ll give you an example for all three.
Example 1 Long Term Goals
Let’s say your long term goal is to have a full time clientele in 1 year. Great goal, it’s an achievable and you have plenty of space and time to work at it to get it done. But what will you do in the meantime to get that full time clientele? What goal is there? Thats where short term comes in.
Example 2 Short Term Goals
If you know you want a clientele in one year, you can plan short term goals inbetween to make that happen. Every month, once a month you can pass out flyers at the mall. You could also give your business cards out at beauty salons. These are short term goals you can do inbetween to reach that long term goal. But could you combine them? Of course?
Example 3 Long Term and Short Term Goals
Combining your goals can make lead you into having the S.M.A.R.T path. You can be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound all because you are paying attention every step of the way. This will ensure that every month your written goals will actually happen because you’re doing something constantly. This path to success and consistency is what you need to get to the end result.
