Hey! So are you thinking of attending nail school? I did and it changed my life! Going back to school can be daunting, especially if you’re older. But it also can be the most rewarding thing you could do for yourself as well. And let’s face it, we like to be rewarded, cherished, and even loved.
So why did I attend nail school? Well I didn’t want to work a trucking job anymore. I thought I was a very creative person and I wanted to utilize that. So I looked into trying something different, even if it meant changing my whole life around it. Because I felt like it was worth it.
So I set off to change the course of my life and apply to nail school. Which turned out to be the best thing I could ever do for my future!
So I’m gonna give you 5 great reasons on what you should look for in a nail school. Now that I’ve been out of school for 6 years. And even if one thing brightens your eyes to the possibilities, that’s one more reason than you had yesterday on why you should apply!
Reason 1
Creative Freedom
Nail School is going to give you creative freedom. When looking for a school, call and ask if they offer airbrushing, hand painting, or what art supplies do they have. While you might enjoy these later, having an educator there to teach you, makes you a step ahead. If you’re artist at heart naturally this is a sure fire way to start making money from your passion.
Reason 2
Business Skills
When attending school you don’t want to learn just the basics. You want to really excel! Knowing how to run your business is essential to keeping it! Asking if the school has business implementation will help you going forward. My school has this. We learned many different things such as managing employees, bookkeeping, and how to make and apply policies as if we had our own nail salon.
Reason 3
Class Size
How big will your class be? Every school is different based off of location and season. My school had about 7 students in its day class, while when I taught at other schools, some had 2, while others had 30. Remember you don’t want to be just a number or straining for attention. Pick a nail school with a class size that works best for you. This is so you can get the direct attention you want and deserve.
Reason 4
Sanitation and State-board
A huge part of salons getting shutdown or sued is because they aren’t following state board rules. A great school will train you on how to abide by these rules so you’ll always receive a 100% score. People love clean and disinfected salons. Just mention feet and you’ll see. So having that wonderful background of stateboard rules will be beneficial. You want to make sure you have great habits always when running your business.
Reason 5
Teacher Qualifications
Now this one may be a little harder to find out. But it is so worth it. Having an experienced educator will take your career to new heights. My teacher was friends with competition winners, fellow salon owners, and was an airbrushing Queen. Although not apart of the school curriculum, she excelled at nails as she constantly took her career to the next level. Having that influence is amazing. And you’ll be so happy you have it. Think of it as a wonderful bonus.
