Good Morning everyone! Welcome back to another big bright beautiful day. Today I had a little bit of curiosity on my mind, and I wondered, who invented the original French Manicure. You know we come across so many trends in our industry and I find it so stunning how this one trend, out of them all, has truly stood the test of time. It is so popular that every single nail tech has done it at least once, it appears in movies, music videos, magazines, and everywhere else. So who started it and why is it so darn famous?

Let me introduce you to Jeff Pink. Jeff Pink is the creator of Orly, the widely popular nail brand, and the creator of the French Manicure. You see back in the 1970’s Jeff Pink was tasked with doing the nails for a couple of actresses. They needed a nice clean look that would work for all of their clothes and costume changes. At the time, gel polish hadn’t been invented, and quick drying methods we have today weren’t existing either. So it was the usual “just wait for it to dry”, and that took a long time, especially when you have to keep doing polish changes. So Jeff Pink took it upon himself to use white pencils underneath the nails to give them this clean look.

However, the pencils would wash off easily, even though the style was amazing to see. So Jeff Pink reached out to some suppliers to have a white polish made and tried out his new style in Paris. It was such a huge hit that it became a staple, and he kept introducing it to more and more places. He then became known as the American who created the French Manicure!

How awesome is that? To learn the rich history of a staple trend in our nail community. From the 1970s until now, the French Manicure has donned many hands from celebrities to office workers. It’s so timeless you just simply can’t go wrong. I think it is always so fascinating hearing how things come to be and I am so glad I could do a little digging to give you all insight on such a popular classic. Stay tuned for more things to come as I blog on, I’ll see you later sweets!
