So what is you can do to help your space look more presentable? How can you soften the load on your eyes? Well it all starts with a plan. Thats right. Getting together a plan or system you can use to implement will have you decluttering in no time. Because you don’t want to just remove your items, or rearrange things, you want to create a system so that you can keep it decluttered for as long as possible. That way you don’t fall into old habits.

Believe it or not, having clutter can be a lot on your mind whether you know it or not. You can start to feel more stressed just by always having to move around things, or not knowing where to store your items. And stress is nothing a nail tech should be dealing with, when it is perfectly preventable.

So let’s begin. We will go step by step.

Utilize Containers

  • You will need storage bins to organize all or most of your items. Having your polishes put away on racks on the wall or inside of drawers will immensely free up space. And if you’re anything like me, you’ll have hundreds of bottles that’ll need a home.

  • Always throw your discarded items daily in a trash bin. anything that is disposable that is one time use, or has been in contact with your client and can’t be recycled needs to be thrown away
  • If at all or anytime you can recycle, use recycle bins. This will help you throw away items, but also do the environment some good. You’ll be surprised how much can be recycled these days, and doing your part can be very beneficial.

Donate your items

Are you finding you have been a collector for a long time? Donating a significant portion of your space will immensely help you clean up your salon. Sometimes, when we visit nail shows and get swag bags we don’t alway use those items we receive, and sometimes we find out not all the colors or glitters we own ever get used, because they simply aren’t popular with our clientele.

Well donating those items to other nail techs can be a wonderful gift for Christmas, or a birthday, or even just doing a good deed. So take the time to see what you can donate from the items you own. It’ll help free up the space in your salon.

Start a rule

So what can you do to create a possible plan for yourself? Possible create new rule.

Imagine for every 3 items you want to keep, you donated 1 more, and possibly threw away one more. so out of 5 items, 3 are kept, one is donated, and another is tossed in the garbage. That is just an example.

But try making a rule, a healthy rule for yourself that you can realistically stick to, and get your clutter down.

Give yourself a deadline

The best way to achieve the goals you have set out for yourself, is to create a deadline to have all of your progress done. So if you know today is February 1, and you want your salon decluttered by February 12, then in that time is when you create, and execute the actions to getting it all done. Think of a plan like this.

  • February 1, Purchase bins for storage
  • February 2-6, Sort all of the products into categories.
  • February 7, Throw away all of the tossed items into garbage.
  • February 8, Donate all of the donation items.
  • February 9-10, Organize and put away all the items.
  • February 11-12, Clean the entire space from top to bottom.

With this plan you can easily not overwhelm yourself, while still getting things done within a reasonable time. Not overloading yourself is key as you don’t want to give yourself unwanted stress. Put music on while you do it to ease your mind, take food breaks, and don’t work from sun up to sun down.

Stick to a schedule, and make the schedule work for you, not you work the schedule.
